This body cam footage from the Fresno Police Department covers the unfortunate incident that occurred with Ricardo Leon.
On June 5, 2026, a Fresno mother called 911 about her son.
Ricardo Leon was trespassing on her property. She told dispatchers she was pursuing a restraining order, but the paperwork hadn’t been filed yet. She didn’t know he was armed, and she didn’t tell them.
Body-worn cameras from three responding officers captured what followed: officers finding Leon with a handgun in the backyard, a 22-minute standoff of commands and attempts to de-escalate, and the moment at 12:13 p.m. when Leon raised teh gun and two officers opened fire.
This case remains under review by the Fresno County District Attorney’s Office, Fresno PD Internal Affairs, and the Office of Independent Review.
