The province has a great deal to offer tourists, from it’s nightlife to it’s scuba-diving opportunities. From visiting the resort town of Ao Nang to soaking in the Klong Thom Hot Springs, join ViewCation as we take a look at the best things to do in Krabi, Thailand.
Visit the Resort Town of Ao Nang
Ao Nang may not be the capital of Krabi, but it’s the most bustling place that you’ll find in the province. Ao Nang has Krabi’s capital city beat in terms of things to do for tourists, but some might find that the resort town is a little bit tacky for their tastes. Those who like the nightlife will find that Ao Nang’s nighttime offerings outshine those found in other areas. The bustling resort town is alive at all hours of the day and night, which will prove a pro for some and a con for others. Ao Nang is also home to Ao Nang Beach.
Given that Ao Nang is a resort town that’s designed to be accommodating to tourists, you’ll find numerous shops and eateries. Many of these are housed within Ao Nang Centre Point, which is a three-story mall that’s open 24/7.
Check Out Krabi’s Capital Town
The capital of Krabi is a town known simply as Krabi. Though it doesn’t have quite as much to offer tourists as the aforementioned Ao Nang, some may find that it’s quaint offerings are more appealing. Though Krabi isn’t quite as bustling of a town as Ao Nang, there’s still plenty going on. You’ll find even more shops and eateries here, and many of them will be a good deal less expensive than the tourist traps that can be found in Ao Nang.
Another cool thing about the town of Krabi is that it’s surrounded on all sides by dense forests. The mangrove trees comprising this forest give off a unique and peaceful atmosphere that adds to the more serene feel of Krabi in comparison to Ao Nang. If you’re visiting the province of Krabi during the month of April, you can head to it’s capital town to check out a pretty awesome three-day New Year’s festival. The festival goes by the name of Songkran.
Go Shopping at the Krabi Town Night Market
On the subject of Krabi’s capital town, there’s one attraction that deserves it’s own place in this video. That would be the Krabi Town Night Market, which is only open on the weekends. The Krabi Town Night Market is a market that’s aimed slightly more at locals than at tourists, but that doesn’t mean that tourists aren’t welcome. In fact, tourists may find that the market being aimed at the locals is to their advantage, as it means that the experience is more authentic and that the food and goods are a bit cheaper.
The Krabi Town Night Market is filled with different kinds of street vendors, with some offering food and some offering goods. Those looking for unique culinary offerings that they won’t find anywhere else will find much to sample and balk at amongst the food vendors, with some of the varying dishes being offered including brains, insects, and squid eggs. As far as goods are concerned, everything you’ll find at the Krabi Town Night Market is going to be just as unique and authentic as the cuisine. The experience may be too trying for those that aren’t used to the culture or vibe, but others will find that the Krabi Town Night Market is perfect!
Experience the White Sand of Krabi’s Beaches
One thing that makes the province of Krabi such a great place to visit is that it’s beaches are all replete with stunning white sand. The white sand found at Krabi’s beaches is always a sight to behold, and there are numerous great beaches where you can experience it for yourself. We’ve already mentioned one of the many beaches present within the province in this video, and that would be Ao Nang Beach. Similar to the town of Ao Nang itself, Ao Nang Beach is incredibly popular and accommodating to tourists, but that also means that it’s incredibly crowded.
Ao Nang Beach may be the right fit for some, but there are thankfully plenty more beach offerings within the province of Krabi for those who prefer a quieter atmosphere. Several of these are mere minutes away from Ao Nang Beach, and a couple can only be accessed by taking boats from it. Both Railay Beach and Phra Nang Beach are relatively secluded beaches that can only be reached by taking a boat from the shores of Ao Nang Beach. Phra Nang Beach is the more remote of the two, and it has some limestone caves.
