If you’re looking for a city on the rise, one good indicator can be the recent population growth. It might be a great indicator that positive things are happening there, leading more and more people to move there. If you’re trying to find out about the fastest growing cities in the country, then you’re in the right place. In this video, we’re taking a look at the list of cities that, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, had the biggest increase in population between July of 2020 and July of 2021. Georgetown, Texas
Sitting just outside Austin, Georgetown, Texas is officially the fastest growing of all American cities. It had an increase of 10 and a half percent during the period we mentioned, meaning its population might double in about seven years if this trend continues. One of the big things it has going for it is the fact that it’s close to Austin, which is a cultural and economic hub. So people can get the best of Austin without actually living there. Georgetown is a gorgeous city, with a picturesque town square, and great parks and outdoor spaces. And it has really cool views of the nearby San Gabriel River. People are attracted to the safety and high quality neighborhoods that Georgetown offers. It has very good amenities as well. Plus, the career opportunities offered here are tempting as well. If you’re looking for work in the health care, education, transportation, and manufacturing sectors, there are plenty of job opportunities for you in Georgetown. The school system here is excellent as well, boasting a nearly 96% graduation rate, which is quite impressive. Of course, the down side is that now that Georgetown is becoming incredibly popular, prices are going up. So the median house price has skyrocketed from where it was only a year or two ago. Still, if you get in before the town takes off even more, you can expect your home to increase in value. The population as of 2021 was 75,420, and the Median household income was $77,188. And the Median Home Sale Price was $442,523.
Leander, Texas
It probably wont’ come as a surprise that another Austin suburb takes the second spot on the list. After all, why would the increase in population be limited to one nearby city. Leander sits just outside of Austin, offering up some of the same benefits that Georgetown does. It’s a popular choice for commuters, since it’s super easy to get in and out of Austin from Leander. That is made even more easy by the existence of an excellent commuter rail. Leander is a thriving city that has really great schools as well as more affordable housing options than Georgetown. It’s a city full of top notch amenities, and tourists and locals alike enjoy attractions like Lake Travis. Old Town Leander is a classic, charming area that people love to wander around. Leander is also becoming increasingly attractive to businesses, particular construction and manufacturing businesses. But that will likely increase in variety, since the local land is being expanded for more and more business use. The population as of 2021 was 67,124, andthe Median household income was $106,108. Queen Creek, Arizona
QueenCreek is a neighbor of Phoenix, and was incorporated relatively recently –in 1989. Because of its location under the San Tan mountains, Queen Creek is abundant with great soil that is ideal for a variety of crops. As such, there are a large number of agricultural businesses locally, including some that are fit for tourist visits as well. It has an excellent school system, which has made it increasingly attractive over th past few years. Plus, it’s an excellent place to live for people looking to get the all the beneftis that Phoenix offers, without having to live in the big city. It grew 8.9% in population over the year, and landed at apopulation 66,346The Median household income was $104,161. And the Median Home Sale Price was $649,425.
Buckeye, Arizona
It shouldn’t be surprising that there’s another local city that’s having the same growth in population as Queen Creek. Buckeye is a Phoenix suburb that has had a population increase of 8.6% in the year we mentioned. It’s a city that offersa lot of top notch amenities, and, like the entire greater Phoenix area, has a lot of attractions geared towards the retiree set. This includes a bevy of great golf courses, restaurants, etc. Buckeye has been attracting a lot of business as of late, while some bigger employers have been around for awhile. The latter list includes Banner Health, Bank of America, and American Express. It’s an excellent place to live, offering a nice mix of outdoor activities and quality housing. The population as of 2021 was 101,315, andthe Median household income was $79,156. And the Median Home Sale Price was $423,165
New Braunfels, Texas
Our next spot takes us back to the Lone Star State. New Braunfels isn’t an Austin suburb, but it is located smack dab in between Austin and San Antonio. People are drawn to its incredibly scenic landscapes, and anyone who loves the outdoors will find New Braunfels a delight. That’s because it offers numerous parks, hiking paths, biking paths, and more. Locals and visitors alike also love visiting the natural bridge caverns in the area, as well as the two primary rivers that run through the town. And speaking of water, New Braunfels boasts a world class water park calledSchlitterbahn, which can help offset some of the crazy Texas heat during much of the year. The area has a lot of history to it, which also makes it appealing to potential residents. The job market there is excellent, which has helped it draw in enough people to have a population increase of 8.3%. And its two stellar schooldistricts have likely helped as well. The population as of 2021 was 98,857, andthe Median household income was $71,274. And the Median Home Sale Price was $360,000.
Fort Myers, Florida
Finally, we arrive at a city that’s outside of Texas and Arizona! Fort Myers, Florida is a tropical area that brings the best of what Florida has to offer. That’s why it’s no shock that it recently increased in population by 6.8%. Most people tend to thinkof Fort Myers as a tourist spot. And it certainly has a ton to offer in that regard. But more and more people are beginning to realize how great of a place it also can be to live. The views of the Caloosahatchee River, which leads to the Gulf of Mexico, are gorgeous, especially at sunset. And there are ample opportunities for water spots and other outdoor activities. The job market is booming in Fort Myers, and it’s chock full of great restaurants and local amenities. It’s a perfect mix of activities and attractions that would appeal to visitors and ones that appeal to residents. And the fantastic weather doesn’t hurt either. The population as of 2021 was 92,245, andthe Median household income was $48,848. And the Median Home Sale Price was $323,685
CasaGrande, Arizona
Welp, we’re right back to one of our old haunts… Arizona. Casa Grande isn’t a direct suburb of Phoenix, but it’s also not terribly far from it either. It’s about halfway between Phoenix and Tucson, so residents have a nice choice of visiting and spending time in either city if they want. But Casa Grande has a thriving job market and economy of its own, so you won’t necessarily be forced to commute to either city. Employers like Abbott Nutritionand Frito Layprovide job opportunities to prospective residents. The vibe of Casa Grande is excellent –it’s a mix of small town and more modern, bustling city. But somehow it’s neither of those. It boasts a thriving cultural scene with a lot of great theaters, museums, restaurants, and more. And there are ample outdoor activity opportunities, including an impressive set of biking trails. The population as of 2021 was 57,699, andthe Median household income was $55,236. And the Median Home Sale Price was $345,000.
Maricopa, Arizona
Well, you’re probably starting to sense a trend here, because we’re sticking in the Grand Canyon State for this next one. Maricopa is another Phoenix suburb that has seen a population growth in recent times. In the year we’re analyzing, it grew by 6.1%. It has excellent job opportunities, with big employers like Volkswagen Group of America and Northrop Grummanhaving a big presence there. It boasts great weather, some cool historicalsites, and fairly affordable housing. Plus it borders two Native American tribes, giving it a diverse and multicultural feel. The population as of 2021 was 58,442, andthe Median household income was $75,229. And the Median Home Sale Price was $385,280.

And it’s always possible that they’ll have a reversion back to their recent populations. But often the fact that a city is growing in population is a good sign that things are going well there, and that it might be a great play to move to.
